Piper Shores Donates Seven New Light For Life® Flashlights to the Scarborough Police Department
Scarborough, Maine, November 22, 2010
Piper Shores, Maine’s first and only nonprofit lifecare retirement community, recently donated seven new Light For Life® LED flashlights to equip police officers patrolling Scarborough in the department’s marked cruisers.
The Light For Life flashlights use cutting edge advanced capacitor technology to eliminate the need for rechargeable batteries that are used in traditional flashlights.
“We’ve had battery operated flashlights for a long time,” Police Chief Robert Moulton said. “They develop a battery memory and it becomes a constant struggle to keep them charged.”
The Light For Life flashlights operate without batteries and can be fully recharged in just 90 seconds. They also come with three different light settings including a 170-lumen tactical strobe, which can be used by officers to control unruly suspects without the use of physical force.
The Light For Life flashlights are manufactured by 5.11 Tactical, and while they are more expensive ($137 per flashlight) than traditional flashlights, they are cost effective in the long run due to their maintenance-free design and extreme durability.
“Each flashlight comes with a lifetime warranty,” Police Chief Moulton said. “There are no repair or replacement costs and because they don’t use batteries, they are environmentally friendly.”
Piper Shores is proud to support public safety in the community by providing the Scarborough Police Department with this useful new tool.
