Piper Shores Announces 6th Annual Summer Solstice Resident Art Show
Scarborough, Maine, June 3, 2008
Piper Shores, Maine’s first and only nonprofit lifecare retirement community, announced that the 6th Annual Summer Solstice Resident Art Show will take place on Saturday, June 21st from 1-4pm in the Great Room at Piper Shores. More than 25 Piper Shores’ residents will have works in oil, watercolor, photography, fabrics and woodworking on display and will be available to discuss the history and meaning of each piece.
Each year the show attracts art enthusiasts from communities all over southern Maine, and this year shows once again the true diversity and talents of Piper Shores’ residents. While many residents enjoy coming back to a passion for the arts as they progress into retirement living that provides more time to spend with their art, many other residents are finding their artistic side for the first time.
“It’s wonderful to come and see what our residents contribute to the show each year. It’s always something different and interesting,” said Deb Riddell, Executive Director at Piper Shores. “I always walk away from the exhibit learning something about the person that I never knew before.”
“We have some very talented people here at Piper Shores and the art show represents a real appreciation for that talent,” said Ann Ludeking, a lifelong needle worker and six-time contributor to the show. Another resident artist, photographer Jeanne Hammond also shares her passion for art, “Art touches people’s emotions. I try to capture moments of beauty [with photography] and share the feelings I experience with the viewer. Art is about connection,” she says.
The Art Show is free and open to the public. Piper Shores is located at 15 Piper Road in Scarborough. For directions or more information, please call (207) 883-8700 x107.
