5th Annual Piper Shores Summer Solstice Art Show to Feature 25 Resident Artists' Works

Scarborough, Maine, June 14, 2007

Piper Shores, Maine’s first and only nonprofit lifecare retirement community, today announced that the 5th Annual Summer Solstice Resident Art Show will be held on Saturday, June 23rd from 1:00PM to 4:00PM in the Piper Shores Great Room located at 15 Piper Road in Scarborough. This year, the event will proudly feature more than 25 resident artists works in photography, stained glass, oils, watercolors, handworks and needlepoint.

“It’s wonderful to see our Resident Art Show continue to be fresh year after year,” said Deb Riddell, Executive Director at Piper Shores. “We always have new residents submitting works along with a core group who always bring something new and different each year.”

Research has shown that keeping your mind active and your memory sharp is a key part of aging well and enjoying better quality of life as you grow older. Programs such as AARP’s Staying Sharp initiative encourages seniors to continue learning new skills throughout their life to maintain a healthy brain. At Piper Shores, although some residents have enjoyed a lifelong appreciation of art, many have only been able to explore their artistic pursuits after retirement.

“You really don’t know someone until you’ve given them an opportunity to express who they are through art,” says Piper Shores resident Ruth Fraser. “There are always quite a variety of different styles, mediums and subjects. I am looking forward to sharing a little bit of my life with the others through my painting and I hope to learn something new along the way as well.”

The event is free and open to the public. For more information please call 207-883-8700.
