How You Can Help Beat Alzheimer’s
(Or how to join in the fight against Alzheimer’s…and have a good time doing it!)

In keeping with our commitment to support community nonprofit organizations, Piper Shores is proud to sponsor the Eric Weinrich Charity Golf Tournament & Auction for the third year in a row. This year’s event will once again be held at the Woodlands Club in Falmouth, Maine on Monday, July 24th. The event features a scramble format golf tournament during the day and a dinner and auctions in the evening. Open to the public, the annual fundraiser for the Alzheimer’s Association of Maine generated over $60,000 in 2005 and is projected to take in up to $100,000 this year. Piper Shores doubled its sponsorship this year and hopes you’ll join us at the event. With your support and that of more than 30 sponsoring organizations from the Greater Portland area, we can help eradicate this insidious disease.

Created by Maine resident Eric Weinrich, a professional NHL hockey player currently playing for the St. Louis Blues, the event honors his late grandfather, a victim of Alzheimer’s. Eric also participates in many levels of the event including an auction in which he offers his time; playing golf with -- and cooking for -- two winning auction bidders.

“There should be close to 200 players participating in the tournament and just as many at the evening auction and dinner at the Woodlands,” says Piper Shores resident Dr. Larry Crane. Larry is member of the Alzheimer’s Association of Maine and has played a key role in organizing the annual golf tournament for the local Chapter over the past few years. Larry was a practicing orthopedist in Portland for more than 40 years. “I got involved in this cause, the same way many other people did. I lost my wife three years ago to Alzheimer’s. I offered to help and they put me on the golf committee. This is a great event – for a great cause. There’s so much exciting work being done right now in Alzheimer’s research and we may be getting much closer to finding an answer.”
