Activities at Piper Shores.
Stay active, busy and involved.
At Piper Shores, your biggest challenge may be choosing from among the engaging opportunities that await you every day.
From exercise classes, swimming in the indoor pool or a morning walk along the water to computer classes, lectures and social get-togethers, wine socials, holiday parties, Bocce games, and jazz brunches, there's plenty to do at Piper Shores. But should you choose to explore nearby Portland and Coastal Maine area attractions, there are numerous outstanding museums, performing arts, shopping, golf and dining opportunities from which to choose. Piper Shores offers conveniently scheduled transportation to area shopping centers, medical appointments and special events.
Our resident clubs and committees appeal to almost every interest, and we offer an acclaimed senior college program at the University of Maine's Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. So get involved or just curl up with a book before the fire and enjoy being in Maine. It's your choice at Piper Shores.
Residents’ Governance
To ensure that residents’ issues and ideas are thoughtfully recognized and incorporated into Piper Shores’ institutional planning, policy development and decision making, Piper Shore residents are encouraged to participate in resident governance by joining various board appointed resident committees. From these committees a total of two resident representatives are selected to participate in every board meeting. To ensure that residents’ concerns and opinions are heard, resident council members serve as the liaison between residents and the Piper Shores’ board of directors. Additionally, residents are encouraged to participate in a variety of standing committees representing Resident Outreach and Support (health & wellness), Building & Grounds, Finance, Marketing, Activities and Food & Beverage.
Woodworking Shop
Residents from the Piper Shores’ Woodworking Shop routinely repair resident-owned wooden chairs and tables. Not only do the residents get their broken furniture fixed, the woodworkers enjoy the opportunity to demonstrate their craftsmanship and help other members of the Piper Shores community. We invite you to visit our Woodworking Shop on your next visit.
Community Garden
One of the more recent additions to Piper Shores is our community garden. Currently there are more than 33 residents growing everything from snap peas, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers and an assortment of herbs to snap dragons, dahlias, mums, cosmos, gazania’s and more. We invite you to stop by and chat with our “green thumbs” on your next visit.
